‘Di-Faced Tenner’

BANKSY

2004
Two counterfeit £10 notes, colour lithograph on paper, framed with art glass
Edition unknown
7.5cm(h)x14.5cm(w)

An iconic, unusual and an early work on paper, the Di-faced Tenner was created for public stunts that involved dropping suitcases full of the counterfeit currency in public places. At least 100,000 were printed — enough to total £1,000,000.

An unknown amount of Di-Faced Tenners were also released at the exhibition preview of Santa’s Ghetto, held at Lazarides Gallery.

Torn pieces of Di-Faced Tenners are now used as a symbolic seal of authenticity on the majority of Pest Control authentication certificates.
